Waste Pickers

Empowering Waste Pickers for a Cleaner, Greener Tanzania
At AfriCraft, we recognize the challenges faced by waste pickers in Tanzania. These workers often operate in poor conditions and lack the equipment and resources needed to manage waste safely and effectively.
Our waste pickers project aims to improve the health, economic conditions, and working conditions of waste pickers in Dar es Salaam.
Through capacity building and entrepreneurial skills training, we aim to empower waste pickers to become self-reliant and healthier.
With a pilot program supporting 30 waste pickers by 2024, we are committed to creating a sustainable future and a circular economy in Tanzania.
What we do
- We work to uplift waste pickers operating in harsh conditions by addressing their health, safety, and income challenges
- We provide access to better tools, protective gear, and resources to ensure safe and efficient waste collection.
- Our initiative focuses on reducing health risks through awareness, support, and improved sanitation for waste pickers.
- We offer training in business and entrepreneurship to help waste pickers increase their income and gain independence.
- We develop the skills and confidence of waste pickers so they can manage waste sustainably and participate in the circular economy.
