Our Impact

Transforming Waste into Opportunity

At AfriCraft, sustainability is more than a process, it’s a purpose. Since our founding, we’ve committed to turning what others throw away into something truly valuable, for our environment, our people, and our future. Every product and every project tells a story; not just of recycled materials, but of the humans behind the products, handcrafting everything meticulously to improve their own livelihood and in turn benefits the environment.

We are a fair-trade organization a social enterprise focused on recycled and natural handcrafts.  – “AfriCraft is a WFTO-certified fair-trade social enterprise based in Tanzania, dedicated to transforming recycled and natural materials into meaningful handcrafted products. We operate with a dual purpose: as a commercially agile artisan brand offering ethically made goods for global markets, and as a grassroots catalyst for community development. Our impact extends beyond the workshop – creating dignified jobs, supporting youth and women from marginalized communities, and driving environmental education through our NGO-led initiatives. Every AfriCraft product is a reflection of our commitment to sustainability, cultural preservation, and inclusive economic empowerment where creativity fuels both commerce and change.”

Our Journey

From 2004, What began as a small workshop with a handful of artisans and a passion for recycling has grown into a vibrant, socially conscious business and nonprofit ecosystem. From discarded paper to plastic waste, our raw materials come from the streets, homes, and offices of Tanzania, and are given new life by skilled hands.

Today, AfriCraft Ltd and our sister AfriCraft NGO work together to build a circular economy that is inclusive, local, and regenerative. We’ve diverted tons of waste from landfills and created fair employment for dozens of artisans, many of whom have overcome incredible odds.

We have also created projects that further surpass our core function. From transforming reproductive health for your girls through Binti project to enabling access to transportation for  kids in rural areas with AfriBike.

Though our journey is just beginning, the impact we’ve made is already transforming lives and reshaping our community.

Our Journey From Waste to Worth, From Local Roots to Global Impact

What began in 2004 as a modest workshop fueled by passion for recycling and social equity has since evolved into one of Tanzania’s pioneering dual-impact enterprises: AfriCraft Ltd and the AfriCraft NGO. United by a common vision, we have built a circular ecosystem where discarded materials are transformed into purpose-driven designs and where communities grow through opportunity and not aid.

From glass bottles and paper scraps to plastic, metal, and wood offcuts, our raw materials are salvaged from Tanzanian streets, homes, offices, and landscapes. Each product tells a story of sustainability, resilience, and the skilled hands of local artisans who shape waste into beauty. Today, over a dozen tradecraft zones power our production, preserving heritage skills and uplifting marginalized communities through dignified, fair employment.

But our mission reaches far beyond the workshop.

Through AfriCraft NGO, we’ve expanded our impact into the social fabric of Tanzanian life – supporting schoolgirls with menstrual health education through the Binti Project, providing bicycles to rural students via AfriBike, supporting schools in sustainable architecture through Tiny Houses, and catalyzing local climate action with waste management campaigns like Coco Beach Cleanup and Lake Natron Glass Bank.

As a proud member of the World Fair Trade Organization, our work is not just about products ; it’s about building a just, regenerative economy. One where environmental stewardship and community empowerment are embedded into every craft, every sale, and every story we share with the world.

This is our journey. And it’s only just begun.
